Myofascial Release

Founder John Barnes, PT, calls myofascial release the "healthcare of the future." From my understanding and my experience, he's not kidding.

Commonly referred to as MFR, the technique is based on Barnes' discovery that the elastin-collagen matrix of the body can be accessed by applying pressure to the soft tissues at a 45* angle for at least five minutes. While maintaining this hold on the soft tissues, we start to mobilize and rehydrate the fascia, releasing held tensions and traumas through gently pulling and pushing. The release of these tensions is facilitated by a relaxed, receptive state in both the practitioner and recipient. The only caveat is that only as much is released as the recipient willing to let go of in that moment.
